An artistic symbol of today's globalizing world, the young dynamic BHARATA NATYAM- dancer, Mythili Prakash is taking the dance world by storm. Born and brought up in the US and trained by her mother, renowned Bharata Natyam dancer, Viji Prakash.(click). Mythili is considered one of the brightest young stars of the field in India, and is steadily gaining recognition in Europe, Canada, and the US. Hailed a child prodigy, Mythili Prakash began her career as a dance performer at the age of eight. In January 2008 Mythili was recognized with the Best Dancer award for Bharata Natyam for her dance concert at the Mumbai Festival, presented by the Nalanda Mahavidhyalaya, Bombay. Mythili has been awarded the Yuva Kala Bharathi by Bharat Kalachar a leading cultural organization in Chennai, India during the December 2007-2008 Festival season. Mythili received the Vasanthalakshmi - Narasimhachari award of Natyarangam (click)(Nararada Gana Sabha, Chennai) in August, 2007. In March 2007, Mythili received the Sanskriti Nitya Puraskar,(click) New Delhi, for her "contribution to dance at a young age" and had the honor of sharing the stage with Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (a recepient of the Sanskriti award himself) at the India International Center, New Delhi. In May 2007 Mythili premiered her newest original choreography Stree Katha - the untold tragic stories of the three women from the Ramayana. In 2007 Mythili played the role of Sivagami in Gowri Ramnarayan's latest play "Flame of the Forrest" in several shows across South India. A recipient of the Irvine Foundation Creation to Performance Grant in 2005, Mythili’s excellence has been acknowledged through her accolades from the premiere institutions of Music and Dance in India: The Chandrashekaran Endowment, the Music Academy, Chennai 2007; The Rohini Krishnan Endowment Best Dancer Award, Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai 2006; the Spirit of Youth “MGR Best Dancer Award”, the Music Academy, Chennai 2000. Mythili’s other honors include the best dancer by Artindia (August 2006)(click) , 1st placement in the National Advancement for the Arts – 2001 Miami, Florida, The Kohinoor Award for Excellence in Arts and Culture -1996, Los Angeles Ca., and a command performance at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan for the President of India,(click) Delhi 1991.
