PERFORMANCE TOURS

  • Since 1990, Mythili has toured India regularly as a soloist during the Music and Dance Season (December/January), performing in the countries’ most respected sabhas such as Krishna Gana Sabha, Music Academy, Bramha Gana Sabha, Mylapore Fine Arts, Karthik Fine Arts, Bharat Kalachar, Tyaga Bramha Gana Sabha of Vani Mahal (Chennai); The Habba Festival, Music Academy of Chowdiah Hall, Indranagar Sangeet Sabha, Gayana Samaja (Bangalore); Chembur Fine Arts, Shanmughananda Sabha (Mumbai). Kamani, Triveni (Delhi).

    On August 6 2008, Mythili will present her newest choreography "Yamuna" on the sacred river as part of the Festival of dance "Theertha Bharatham" of the Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai. Following this she is presenting a solo performance at the famed Joe's Pub in New York City on August 16 and August 20. Following her solo performance tour in the US in September Mythili travels to Paris for a performance at Musee Guimet on September 12, 2008, and returns to perform at the World Festival of Sacred Music in Los Angeles on September 16, 2008.

    In early 2008 and late 2007 Mythili Prakash toured her new choreography Stree Katha (click) and her Ensemble Work (click) in the US and India. In February 2007 Mythili did the Natyanjali performance tour of the Temples in Tanjavur, Kumbakonam, Nagapattinam, Thirunellar, and Chidambaram. Recepient of the Yuva Kala Bharathi award of Bharat Kalachar, Chennai 2007 and the Chandrasekaran memorial Endowment 2007, Mythili danced at the T.T.K Auditorium of the Music Academy, Chennai. In March 2007, Mythili received the Sanskriti Nitya Puraskar for her "contribution to dance at a young age" and had the honor of sharing the stage with Ustad Amjad Ali Khan at the India International Center, New Delhi. Mythili collaborated with Gowri Ramnarayan, famed playwright in her new play "Flame of the Forrest" playing the role of Sivagami. This play is scheduled to tour the USA in 2009. Mythili toured the USA, Europe and Canada in 2007 performing her solo work Stree Katha. She played the lead role of Sita in Shakti Dance Company USA tour of Tulsi Ramayan in October 2007. In November 2007, Mythili went on a 17 country, Soorya Festival world tour.

    In 2006, Mythili was invited to perform at Narada gana Sabha’s Natyarangam, themed “Dasa Bharatam”, where she presented her own work depicting the life of Gujurati poet Narsi Mehta through his own compositions. Mythli performed for Kartick Fine Arts, Chennai and toured Kerala, performing at Dharini Fine Arts Society, Cochin, Thallam Festival, Trisur, and the Soorya Festival, Trivandrum. In December Mythili performed at the inaugural of Krishna Gana Sabha’s Festival season and in the festivals of Hamsadhwani, Bramha Gana Sabha, Nugambakam Fine Arts and Bharat Kalachar.

       In September 2006, Mythili toured the US with performances in Houston, Austin and Los Angeles as co-choreographer and lead dancer of the Shiva-Shakti dance ballet along with dancers and musicians of the Shakti Dance Company and featured vocalist the famed Lakshmi Shankar.

       In June, 2006 Mythili performed at the ArtWallah Festival, Los Angeles, where for the first time traditional dance was presented and much liked by the audiences. Mythilis new DVD

  •   was released at ArtWallah. In April and May 2006, Mythili toured United Kingdom and France performing in prestigious venues such as The Lowry, Manchester, and Unity Theater, Liverpool, Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan and Nehru Center of The Indian High Commission, London, Mantapa and Espace, Paris, to name a few.

       In March, 2006 Mythili presented an inspiring performance at the Ravi Shankar Institute (RIMPA). Critic and connoisuer lauded Mythil's performance. -Leela Venkataraman and Lada Guruden reviewed the program in The Hindu and Statesman respectively.

       In February of 2006, Mythili received rave reviews for her performance at the prestigious Natyanjali Festival. (click to view performance on Kutcheri Buzz). The festival included performances at the Shiva temples of Nagapatinam, Karaikal, Kumbakonam, Tanjavur, and Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu, India.        Mythili is a principal dancer in the Shakti Dance Company and has played the lead roles and been a featured soloist in its dance productions such as, Women of the Mahabharata, Shyama, Bhagvad Gita,Meera, and Prince to Buddha – the Journey of Enlightenment, Shiva - Shakti, all of which featured the renowned Lakshmi Shankar as the main vocalist, and toured the USA in 1993, 1996, 2002/2003, 2004, 2006 respectively performing at prestigious venues in the US, such as the Lincoln Center, New York; Portland Center for the Performing Arts, Oregon; and The Wortham Center, Houston Texas, Brovard County Performing Arts Center, Fort Lauderdale, New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), New Jersey, to name a few.

    Mythili has also been featured in several collaborative projects, including Tanjore Project, (a collaborative project of Modern and Bharata Natyam) choreographed by Janet Roston and presented at the Palms Springs Dance Festival, and Artwallah, LAArt Scene in 2003, and Solea a piece by Lynn Dally, artistic director of Jazz Tap Ensemble, which brought together four distinct dance styles: Flamenco, Modern, Tap, and Bharata Natyam. Mythili performed with the Jazz Tap Ensemble in a series of full length performances at The Joyce Theatre on Broadway, New York in November 2002.
